Earthsong Hawaiʻi is a regenerative community dedicated to ecological education, land stewardship, and restoration. Guided by the permaculture ethics of earth care, people care, and sharing the surplus, we work together to create a more resilient and nourishing future.
Volunteering at Earthsong is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with the land, learn practical skills, and contribute to a living community in rural Kāʻu on Hawaiʻi Island.

What you might help with
Volunteer projects vary with the season and the needs of the land. Activities may include:
Planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting
Caring for fruit trees, herbs, vegetables, and medicinal plants
Maintaining gardens, paths, and forest areas
Agroforestry: supporting ecological restoration
Building, repairing, and improving community spaces
Helping with the animals: sheep, ducks, cats, dog, honeybees all need daily love and care
Daily cleaning and maintaining of communal spaces
Preparing produce or herbal products for the donation-based farm stand
Helping with educational, creative, or community projects
Learning about permaculture, tropical growing, and regenerative living
No two days are exactly alike. Some days may be active and hands-on; others may offer time for observation, learning, and connection.

What to expect
Before applying, please review the details below:
Volunteer dates and minimum commitment: 2 week initial trial with weekly check-ins for mutual benefit, 1-3 months total.
Weekly schedule: At the beginning of each week a meeting is held and tasks are given. Volunteers are able to complete the tasks at their own pace in the weeks time.
Accommodation: Private room with access to a shared bathroom and kitchen.
Meals or kitchen arrangements: Basic food staples are provided plus access to the fresh food growing on the land for volunteers to cook themselves. Additional desired foods can be purchased at the farmers market and grocery store by volunteers on a weekly basis.
Transportation and directions: Volunteers can arrive and depart by free public bus, which can also be taken to explore the island. Weekly trips in our vehicle are taken to farmers market, grocery store, and the ocean.
What to bring: work/farm attire, cozy clothing for rainy weather, non-toxic environmentally friendly soaps/shampoo and personal necessities.
There is a small community of us living on the land and communal activities happen weekly and organically such as trips to the farmer's market, to the ocean and some shared meals - but we also appreciate and honor each other's solitude. The area we are located is very rural, so this is best suited for those who want to be immersed in a tropical environment while giving back to the land in which they live.
Volunteer opportunities depend on current projects, weather, and community capacity. We will do our best to match your interests and abilities with the needs of the land.
Who we welcome
We welcome people who are dependable, respectful, curious, and ready to participate. You do not need to be an expert, but you must be enthusiastic, flexible, and willing to learn.
Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor work in a tropical climate, including sun, heat, mud, uneven ground, and changing weather. Please let us know about any accessibility needs, dietary requirements, relevant experience, or physical limitations when you apply.
We consider and treat the land as an "earth ashram" so this is a great place for those who like to work peacefully in nature and are comfortable working quietly by themselves once task/direction is given, who have their own spiritual/yoga/meditation practice that they will cherish getting plenty of time to focus on (all community members have access to dedicated practice spaces with yoga props and sound healing instruments).
Experience in permaculture / off-grid living is preferred.
While we value the healing arts and welcome those additional skills, volunteers to Earthsong must have a primary interest in the land-based work required to living here.
